BARBARA PENHOUËT
Barbara Penhouët (b.1990 in Vannes, France) is a painter and architect. She has a master from the Ecole Supérieure d’Architecture de Bretagne (ENSAB) and lived in Berlin for 5 years before moving to Paris. She has held solo exhibitions in Rennes and Berlin. She also took part in several group exhibitions in Berlin and Reykjavik, and was artist in residence at the SIM residency program in Reykjavik, Iceland during the summer of 2018.
Penhouët's portraits serve as a conduit for exploring profound metaphysical themes, echoing the timeless concept of metempsychosis. Rooted in the philosophical insights of Pythagoras, metempsychosis delves into the soul's journey beyond mortal boundaries, traversing cycles of rebirth and eventual liberation from corporeal constraints upon death.
By drawing parallels between her art and this ancient philosophy, Penhouët's oeuvre captures a spiritual essence that transcends mere physical representation. Through her artwork, Penhouët offers a profound meditation on the human condition, inviting us to contemplate our place and understanding within the vast tapestry of existence.
